Hello,
Just a reminder to staff that process float: please remember to use the CD/CD ROM setting on the 3M Conversation software when tagging audiovisual items such as DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. The tags should be placed inside the insert cover of the item. Do not place the tag on the case (neither interior nor exterior), on the plastic covering of the case, nor on the exterior of the insert cover.
If you need instructions on how to do this, please refer to the RFID Tagging Specifications linked to this entry. You can also find it on the group blog on the Floating Resources page under Tagging Instructions.
At no time should staff use the video setting on the 3M Conversation software, as this setting will make it difficult for items to be checked out on the automated checkout machines.
Thanks,
MR

Float: Large Print Books
Hello,
Please float all large print books to NL locations, even if you see that Central does not have a copy. This is one area of the collection in which there will be some NL locations that do not have copies of certain titles, and Central's collection is getting quite full.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
MR

REMINDER: Routing Float to CEN
From Sara Karow:
Occasionally there is a good reason to send an item to Collection Development Office librarians instead of floating it to another Neighborhood Library, such as finding that the Central Library's copies are missing and offering us one for consideration as a transfer.
If you do send an item to us, please address the FLOAT label to "Collection Development" (+ the name of the CD librarian you're sending it to if you know it) ~NOT~ to "CEN". We have recently seen an increase in the number of items being mis-addressed from a variety of sending locations. The result is that the Central Library Support Team staff is unnecessarily confused by the items arriving there and it disrupts their workflow to have to come to our division hoping to find someone who knows what to do with them. It is also helpful to us if you include a short note as to why you're sending it (e.g. "all CEN copies are missing").
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping "The Float" afloat!

Floating to Blue Ridge
Hi staff,
For the next three weeks or so, please cease floating items to Blue Ridge. I'll keep you posted on when we can resume sending items to that location.
Thanks,
MR

Meyer Discards
Hello,
We have started keeping track of Meyer discards. The only ones that we will keep track of are the ones that are very obvious. Meyer does not have time to go through each item they are sending as closely as we do. So if you do not see any issues on the outside of the book or from flipping through it quickly at first glance then we will not keep track of those.
Thanks,
PF

Begin Posting
Hello team,
If you already know of which locations are not taking certain kinds of materials, please begin posting it on here so that everyone is aware of it.
